Advancements in AI are redefining teledentistry—extending diagnostic precision beyond the clinic walls. Our research demonstrates how deep learning models can transform conventional imaging into rapid, remote diagnostic tools.
A CNN-based model we developed accurately distinguished jaw tumors—ameloblastomas and KCOTs—on panoramic radiographs within seconds, rivaling expert diagnoses in accuracy while drastically reducing diagnostic time from 23 minutes to 38 seconds.
Using a Faster R-CNN, we automated the detection of periodontally compromised teeth, achieving high precision and sensitivity, enabling real-time screening without in-person consultations.

For trauma care, DenseNet-169 and Faster R-CNN classified and detected maxillofacial fractures in CT scans with promising accuracy, paving the way for remote triage and specialist support.
These AI tools, first envisioned as chair-side assistants, now evolve into vital components of teledentistry—offering cross-border consultations, fast screening, and expert-level diagnostics anytime, anywhere, without leaving the patient’s side.
